BB Cream: Hype or Must Have?

BB Cream, also known as Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm, has been in use since the late 80’s, but recently hit the beauty industry by storm again through effective marketing and advertising.  The idea behind the cream is to enhance the skin, correcting uneven skin tones, minimizing oiliness, and reducing wrinkles and inflammation. In addition, many of the creams have whitening properties and offer UV protection.  Sounds amazing that one product can do so much! Is it all hype or a must have for your beauty kit?

After much research, it appears as if this product is a must have. Not only does it help to protect and repair skin, it can also act as a base foundation. It has been reported that after just a few weeks of use, a noticeable difference in tone, texture, and overall clearer skin, free from blemishes, can be a typical result. Here, we’ve listed our picks of some tried and true BB creams for common skin needs.

Just remember, there is no such thing as a miracle cream. A healthy combination of daily cleansing, toning, moisturizing and facial exercise will help maintain a youthful appearance through the years. DNA & Beauty: It’s Not All About Luck

The most wonderful thing about being human is that each of us is completely unique, just like a finger print, thanks to our DNA makeup.  DNA determines our eye color, hair color, height, as well as other physical attributes. The section of DNA that determines our physical appearance is called genes; these genes are a mixture of DNA passed down from both our parents, which ultimately determine the traits we receive. Unfortunately, even if your mother is supermodel esque, it doesn’t necessarily mean those favorable attributes will be bestowed upon you.

While DNA plays an integral part in whom we are and what we look like, it is not the end all. A person can have a perfect gene pool resulting in flawless beauty, only later to be wrecked by lifestyle choices. We have all seen this happen time and time again, to many of our beloved Hollywood beauties.

The luck factor in the DNA received is helpful, but it is important to maintain what we were given regardless if you are a flawless beauty or more of an average Jane. Here are a few tips to keep your skin looking beautiful and wrinkle free.

Watch Your Sun Exposure:
UVA/UVB rays from the sun are extremely damaging to the epidermis and under layers of the skin, which can result in wrinkles, age spots, and even skin cancer. When choosing a daily moisturizer, select one that has a broad spectrum SPF to protect your skin.

Limit Alcohol Consumption:
We all like to let our hair down to join the party with a cocktail, just be conscious of the amount and frequency in which you partake. Alcohol is okay in small quantities, but if over used or abused it can result in dehydrated skin which speeds up the aging process.

Develop A Daily Beauty Regimen:
It is common knowledge that to maintain healthy skin, cleansing, toning and moisturizing is required. Develop a regimen that you can stick to on a daily basis, and maybe consider adding facial exercise to work from the inside out. Muscle atrophy is the leading cause of facial lines, creases and folds. Facial-Flex is a medical device used to tone the muscles of the face, chin and neck, reducing the effects of aging.

It is never too late to start implementing simple everyday practices like these to help reduce and in some cases reverse the effects of aging. To learn more about Facial Concepts, Inc. and our products visit us at www.facialflex.com

Green is the New Black: Spring Colors and Skin Tones

Spring fashion is upon us, even though you are probably still in your snow boots and heavy coats. Regardless, the stores have stocked their spring lines and are ready for the approaching warm weather. At New York Fashion Week this year, the experts announced that emerald green will be the hot new color of 2013.

Each year a new trendy color is announced, causing a chain reaction in everyone running out to stock their wardrobe with clothing in the new “it” color. The truth is, no matter what the color of the minute is, focusing on your own skin and what colors work best for you will make all the difference in your appearance. Having healthy, glowing skin and understanding what types of makeup and colors go best with your skin tone will allow you to match your styles perfectly and fit right in with the new spring fashions.

Everyone’s skin tone can be categorized as either ‘warm’ or ‘cool’. The two skin tones have color compliments that best suit the skin and make you look your finest.

‘Cool’ complexions have a pink or red undertone in their skin. The colors that best match these skin types, whether it is the clothes you wear or the makeup you put on, are jewel tones – emerald green, royal blue, dark pink, purple, gold, etc.

‘Warm’ complexions have a yellow, peach, golden undertone in their skin. The colors that go best with ‘warm’ skin are earth tones – olive green, orange-red, peach, tan, yellows, dark green, etc.

Unfortunately, fashion experts do not take into consideration each person’s skin tone when announcing the new color of the season.  So the question comes to mind, what do you do if emerald green is not one of the colors that best highlights your skin, but you still want to be fashionable? The answer - accessorize with these colors! Wear the tones that match your own skin and give the ‘new’ color a place with your purse, your shoes, your jewelry, etc.

No matter what color you are wearing this spring – the traditional black, emerald green, or even the growingly popular neon pink - you want to be sure that your skin looks as good as possible and you are complimenting it with the correct tones and colors. This will make the clothes and color you choose speak for themselves and leave everyone asking, what’s your secret?
