Green is the New Black: Spring Colors and Skin Tones

Spring fashion is upon us, even though you are probably still in your snow boots and heavy coats. Regardless, the stores have stocked their spring lines and are ready for the approaching warm weather. At New York Fashion Week this year, the experts announced that emerald green will be the hot new color of 2013.

Each year a new trendy color is announced, causing a chain reaction in everyone running out to stock their wardrobe with clothing in the new “it” color. The truth is, no matter what the color of the minute is, focusing on your own skin and what colors work best for you will make all the difference in your appearance. Having healthy, glowing skin and understanding what types of makeup and colors go best with your skin tone will allow you to match your styles perfectly and fit right in with the new spring fashions.

Everyone’s skin tone can be categorized as either ‘warm’ or ‘cool’. The two skin tones have color compliments that best suit the skin and make you look your finest.

‘Cool’ complexions have a pink or red undertone in their skin. The colors that best match these skin types, whether it is the clothes you wear or the makeup you put on, are jewel tones – emerald green, royal blue, dark pink, purple, gold, etc.

‘Warm’ complexions have a yellow, peach, golden undertone in their skin. The colors that go best with ‘warm’ skin are earth tones – olive green, orange-red, peach, tan, yellows, dark green, etc.

Unfortunately, fashion experts do not take into consideration each person’s skin tone when announcing the new color of the season.  So the question comes to mind, what do you do if emerald green is not one of the colors that best highlights your skin, but you still want to be fashionable? The answer - accessorize with these colors! Wear the tones that match your own skin and give the ‘new’ color a place with your purse, your shoes, your jewelry, etc.

No matter what color you are wearing this spring – the traditional black, emerald green, or even the growingly popular neon pink - you want to be sure that your skin looks as good as possible and you are complimenting it with the correct tones and colors. This will make the clothes and color you choose speak for themselves and leave everyone asking, what’s your secret?
