How to Combat Frizz with a DIY Banana Hair Mask

We’re all about easy beauty treatments that require little work (and money). Case in point: managing our never ending frizz issue. Let’s get real—there is no product in the world that will eliminate frizz. It’s all about managing it. That’s why we’re sharing with you this easy DIY banana hair mask that will help manage your frizz in these hot and humid temperatures.

Here’s what you need (but we bet you already have this in the house):

1 overripe banana
A towel
A shower cap
A blender

Opt for an old banana (the mushier the better). Throw the banana in to the blender and turn it into liquid. Keep blending until you get a smooth consistency (without the chunks). Wrap a towel around your shoulder or lean over your sink or shower when applying the banana liquid. Use your hands to apply the banana start from your ends and working your way up. If you have oily hair, avoid applying at the roots. Next, cover up your banana smelling tresses with a shower cap and let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse out the banana mask with water. Shampoo and condition as usual.

Why it Works: Bananas are rich in potassium, natural oils, carbohydrates and vitamins, all of which helps strengthen damaged hair and manages frizz. It also creates manageability, growth and even controls dandruff. It also leaves a shiny finish, so your tresses will feel much smoother too.

Nailed It! How to Grow Your Nails Faster

If you suffer from weak, brittle nails—we empathize with you. There is nothing more beautiful than a pair of hands to have pretty, strong, long nails. Instead of opting for fake digits, we highly suggest you follow these tips and tricks for quicker (and lasting) nail growth.

  1. Start by taking multivitamin supplements. Ingredients in these supplements help increase nail growth.
  2. Massage your nail beds once a day for about ten seconds per nail. Massaging the nail bed helps stimulate growth.
  3. Vitamin D and dairy products like milk and yogurt help your nails grow faster. Now, head to the grocery store!
  4. Invest in some nail growth polishes. Sally Hansen and Essie offer great nail growth polishes without the expensive price point.
  5. Keep a weekly nail maintenance check. Trim and file nails and moisturize your cuticles for healthy nails.
  6. Avoid biting and picking your nails. Beng too aggressive with your digital can create stress fractures on the corners of the edges and eventually causing breaks.
  7. When you can, wear gloves. If you’re cleaning the house or gardening, wearing gloves helps protect a barrier against harmful chemicals and rough handling.
  8. Nails become weaker under water so don’t submerge them in water often.
  9. Frequent the nail salon? Apply a hand sunscreen before going under those dangerous UV and LED lights when you’re getting a mani or pedi.
  10. Keep a moisturizing hand cream with you at all times.
